About the Race That's Good For Life

The Oak Park Runners Club hosts one of the most prestigious 5K race events in the Chicago area. The Race That’s Good For Life is a family friendly event that draws from the Oak Park area and beyond. This race has been awarded “Best Race in the Chicago Region” for two years running. The Race That’s Good For Life is also unique in that it boasts separate 5K races for men and women on top of several additional family-oriented events. This popular community event brings out over 1,200 people to participate in the Youth Mile Race, Mother/Daughter and Father/Son competitions, non-competitive 5K fitness walk, and Junior Jog as well as hosting numerous volunteers and spectators. A flat, fast 5K race course and monetary prizes for top runners attract quality runners of all ages.

Our mission for the past 30+ years has always been to provide a high quality event for participants of all abilities. Our race proceeds also benefit local charities such as the United Way (formerly Community Chest) of Oak Park, River Forest, & Forest Park, the West Suburban Health Care Foundation, Friends of the Oak Park Public Library, and the Chicago Area Runners Association.
